Dear IEEE Conference Organizers,

As we reflect on the past year, the IEEE Conferences Committee would like to thank our community of organizers, members, volunteers, and staff for their dedication and perseverance during these challenging times. It is through your efforts that we have been able to pivot the IEEE Conferences Business – learning, growing, stretching our imagination of what’s possible, and pushing the technology to keep up. IEEE has held over 1600 conferences in 2020, providing opportunities for 465K professionals to connect, collaborate, and advance technology for humanity.

The learning shared within our community this year was unprecedented. Our evolving online Virtual Events Guide, launched in April, continues to be shaped by experiences from events taking place around the world. The successful Going Virtual Town Hall in July provided opportunities to share unique organizer stories on their paths to virtual. We are so grateful for all of the insights shared by our collaborators and look forward to continued dialogues moving forward.

With our sights set on 2021, we look optimistically to the future and the opportunities and challenges ahead. With preparedness and safety top of mind, we look forward to providing engaging virtual event experiences and flexing our muscles in hybrid formats. As we venture into the world of hybrid events, we can begin to cautiously embrace the joy of coming back together – the friendships, the laughter, and the rich exchanges that are an essential part of meeting face-to-face.

We invite you to visit our recently updated Virtual & Hybrid Events Guide for additional guidance and best practices to help you plan in the coming year.

Kind regards,

Bin Zhao
